About this gauge

The USGS gauge near Chrysotile measures the Salt River as it leaves the headwaters basin and approaches Theodore Roosevelt Lake. It is one of the longest-running streamflow records in central Arizona.

Flow at this point is the primary inflow signal for the Salt River Project chain. Above-normal flow in late winter and spring drives storage gains at Roosevelt; below-normal flow extends drought-management cycles for the Phoenix-area reservoirs.

Live discharge values come from USGS WaterServices instantaneous data. Percentile classification follows USGS WaterWatch methodology against the published period of record. NWS flood-stage thresholds for this gauge are tracked through AHPS forecast point SLCA3.
