About this gauge
The USGS gauge near Camp Verde measures the Verde River through the middle Verde Valley, between the headwaters and the inflow to Horseshoe Reservoir. It is the most-watched flow point on the Verde for downstream Salt River Project storage.
The Verde behaves differently from the Salt: a smaller drainage with flashier response to monsoon storms and wet winters, more variable year-to-year. High flows here typically arrive in March from snowmelt or in July and August from monsoon convection.
